Sandhya Chandrasekhar is counsel in the Chicago office of Latham & Watkins and is a member of the Tax Department. Sandhya has professional experience in employee benefits and executive compensation and works with clients to create practical solutions that satisfy the tax and ERISA legal requirements.
Her central focus is employee benefits. Specifically, she designs and drafts qualified plans such as 401(k) plans, profit sharing plans, pension plans, and cash balance plans, and has worked to implement these plans through individually designed and pre-approved documents. A significant amount of her practice is devoted to advising clients regarding qualified plan operational issues, reporting and disclosure issues, fiduciary issues, required plan testing, correction of plan defects, and other matters requiring legal compliance with the tax law and ERISA. She works with both the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor to resolve client issues.
Sandhya also dedicates a substantial portion of her practice to welfare plans, cafeteria plans, health plans, dependent care plans, and retiree health programs. This involves coordination with the Affordable Care Act and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as well as tax law and ERISA.
In addition, she counsels clients with respect to a variety of other issues, including outsourcing employees and handling practical and legal benefits issues in mergers and acquisitions.
Sandhya represents a wide range of clients from large publicly held companies to small, privately-held firms on both a national and international basis.
