Sarah Grimsdale is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Litigation & Trial Department. She focuses her practice on white collar criminal defense and government and internal investigations. 

Sarah represents domestic and global companies, as well as high-profile individuals, across a variety of industries including technology, healthcare, defense, and financial services. 

Sarah has experience advising clients on investigations, enforcement, and litigation matters involving potential violations of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the US False Claims Act (FCA), US securities laws and regulations, the Investment Advisors Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), Stark Law, and a number of other regulatory regimes. Sarah has represented clients in government-facing matters with the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and other domestic regulators.

In addition to her investigations and defense work, Sarah also works with clients to enhance their corporate compliance programs. She has assisted clients with developing and updating policies and procedures, drafting compliance communications, leveraging compliance monitoring and analytics, and preparing government-facing compliance reports.

Sarah currently serves as a member of Latham’s Training and Career Enhancement (TACE) committee.

Sarah received her law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School, where she was an articles editor on the Law Review and president of Vanderbilt’s chapter of the International Legal Honor Society of Phi Delta Phi. While in law school, Sarah also worked as an intern for Judge Christopher R. Cooper on the District Court for the District of Columbia; a research assistant for Professor Nancy King; and a summer associate at Latham.

Sarah’s recent experience includes advising:

  • A multinational corporation in internal investigations and investigations by DOJ and SEC on matters related to alleged fraud, bribery, corruption, false statements, and other concerns
  • An information technology company in a FCA investigation 
  • A multinational corporation on enhancing, testing, and reporting on its global corporate compliance program
  • A public company, as well as certain of its officers, in a SEC investigation related to alleged financial reporting and insider trading concerns
  • A major health care system in internal and government investigations related to alleged violations of healthcare fraud and abuse laws and the FCA, including securing a declination to resolve a five-year long criminal investigation 
  • Healthcare companies in internal investigations and regarding compliance with healthcare laws and regulations
  • Employees of a major investment firm related to inquiries by SEC
  • An individual in a false statement case in federal district court, which resulted in a not guilty verdict 
  • A government official in response to investigations by DOJ and SEC, as well as a congressional inquiry
