Shannon McLaughlin is an associate in the Houston office of Latham & Watkins. Prior to her time in Houston, Shannon was an associate and summer associate in the New York office. She is a member of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department, with a focus on securities and complex commercial litigation.

Shannon represents clients in all phases of litigation. She has worked on cases before state, federal, and administrative law judges as well as mediators, and has experience on both the plaintiff and defense side.

Prior to Latham & Watkins, Shannon earned her JD from The University of Alabama School of Law, graduating magna cum laude and as a member of the Order of the Coif. Shannon served as an editor for the Alabama Law Review and spent her first summer working with the Executive Office of the President in Washington, D.C. She also externed in the Alabama Athletics Department throughout law school.

Before attending law school, Shannon worked for Outward Bound, teaching life management skills to court-ordered and at-risk teens through backpacking and canoeing expeditions.

Some of Shannon's recent experience includes:

  • A trial victory for Toptal, LLC, including awards of compensatory and punitive damages, in a complex commercial litigation against a lender, and defeated the defendant’s counterclaims at summary judgment and trial. Toptal v. Grosz, CV 20-00555 (Washoe Cty., NV 2023)
  • A major global bank in various forms of litigation to win and collect on a more than US$1 billion judgment for breach of contract relating to collateralized debt obligations, negotiating separate settlements with several entities, and commencing turnover proceedings for judgment enforcement
  • Pro bono work relating to conditions of confinement for inmates in state custody
