Stephen Bowen retired from the partnership in December 2012. Stephen is the former Managing Partner of the Chicago office as well as the former Chairman of the firm's Tax Department. His practice focused in the area of federal income taxation.
Stephen was consistently ranked in Band 1 by Chambers USA for Illinois tax rankings and is recommended in The Legal 500's 2011 guide for his domestic tax work. In addition, he has been cited as a recommended attorney in World Tax 2010, a guide to the world's leading tax firms published by International Tax Review as well as listed in Who’s Who in American Law and The International Who’s Who of Corporate Tax Lawyers. He is also recognized in the 2010 Best Lawyers in America survey within the tax category.
Stephen has published a number of articles on the federal income tax consequences of business transactions.
At the time of his retirement, Stephen was a member of The Chicago Bar Association, The Economic Club of Chicago, a Fellow of both the American College of Tax Counsel and the American Bar Foundation and was a trustee of Wabash College. In addition, he is the former Chairman and a member for more than 20 years of the University of Chicago Federal Tax Conference Planning Committee. For many years, Stephen was a regular participant in the Practicing Law Institute’s Annual M&A Tax Program.
