Tomas Nilsson’s practice focuses on global, EU, and Swedish competition law. He advises on a wide range of issues relating to merger control, abuse of dominance, cartel proceedings, and distribution and licensing agreements.

His experience includes work in a number of industries, including IT, consumer products, entertainment, automotive, pharmaceuticals, energy, and aerospace.

He has extensive experience in notifying mergers and joint ventures to the European Commission and to other antitrust authorities around the world.

Tomas has also successfully defended abuse of dominance cases concerning exclusive agreements in Turkey and Denmark, and has worked on abuse of dominance complaints to the European Commission in the transport and high tech sectors. In the area of cartels, Tomas has experience from investigations in the shipping, IT, media, and energy sectors. He also frequently advises clients on global compliance programs.

Furthermore, Tomas frequently advises clients on competition law issues related to distribution agreements and licensing practices. His experience in this area covers a wide range of issues including resale price maintenance, selective distribution, online sales, and distribution in the automotive sector. 

From 2013 to 2014, Tomas was resident in Latham’s Washington, D.C. office, where he gained experience in US antitrust law. Tomas has also worked as a senior associate at one of the leading Swedish law firms.

  • Aon on its contemplated US$30 billion acquisition of Willis Towers Watson
  • Novelis on its US$2.6 billion acquisition of Aleris
  • The Carlyle Group on its acquisition of the specialty chemicals business of AkzoNobel
  • FMC Technologies on its US$13 billion merger with Technip
  • Broadcom on its US$5.9 billion acquisition of Brocade Communication
  • Avago Technologies on its US$37 billion acquisition of Broadcom Corporation (unconditional clearance in EU despite remedy discussions)
  • Safran on its gearbox and its ADT joint ventures with Rolls Royce
