Upton Au is an associate in the New York office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Finance Department and Structured Finance Practice.
Upton advises clients on a variety of complex financing transactions, including commercial mortgage loan repurchase facilities, collateralized loan obligations, revolving credit facilities and securitizations involving a variety of asset classes. He also maintains an active pro bono practice.
Prior to joining Latham, Upton practiced at other international law firms. Before that, he worked in the legal and compliance division at Morgan Stanley, where he provided compliance coverage of third-party and inter-affiliate outsourcing and of US broker-dealer operations.
Upton received his law degree from Brooklyn Law School, where he was an articles editor of the Brooklyn Law Review. During law school, he served as a judicial intern to Judge Frank S. Maas, then a Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of New York. He also served as a legal intern in the legal department at Morgan Stanley and the global market strategies group at The Carlyle Group. Upton earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Philosophy from Williams College.
