Latham Helps Found Groundbreaking Sustainability Initiative

Latham & Watkins is one of the seven founding firms of Lawyers for a Sustainable Economy. This first-of-its-kind initiative includes a promise by the founding firms to make an unprecedented commitment to support sustainability through pro bono efforts. As a founding firm, Latham will provide pro bono services worth at least US$2 million through the course of 2018 until the end of 2020 to organizations who are advancing sustainability worldwide.

“Our firm is committed to donating free legal services to the communities where we live and work,” said Jim Arnone, Global Chair of the Environment, Land & Resources Department. “We are proud to join other founding members of Lawyers for a Sustainable Economy to use our skills in the service of helping organizations that seek to create a more sustainable world.”

Latham currently provides pro bono counsel to a number of organizations focused on sustainability, including The Ocean Cleanup, which develops advanced technologies to remove debris from the world’s oceans; Project Chimps, a safe haven for chimpanzees who were bred in captivity; and The Samburu Project, which provides access to clean water and promotes health, education, general wellbeing, and empowerment in Kenya.
