David Raab is a partner in the New York office of Latham & Watkins.  David formerly served as Global Chair of the Tax Department, Global Co-Chair of the Transactional Tax Practice, and Chair of the New York Tax Department. His practice focuses on corporate and partnership taxation. David currently serves on the firm’s Diversity Leadership Committee.

David has considerable experience representing leveraged buyout, venture capital and hedge funds, investment banking companies, real estate investment trusts, and other public and privately owned corporations. He also represents partnerships and limited liability companies with respect to tax matters pertaining to mergers, acquisitions, recapitalizations, divestitures, public financings, and administrative and judicial tax controversies. 

David  handled the tax aspects of formation of a number of large investment funds, as well as stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions, mergers, public offerings of debt and equity securities, and other corporate restructuring transactions for a number of corporations and private equity firms, including The Carlyle Group, GTCR, BC Partners, Energy Capital Partners, Odyssey Investment Partners, Global Infrastructure Partners, Cinven, Nestle, Broadcom Ltd., and Host Hotels & Resorts.

David was selected as a 2016 MVP for tax by Law360, and is regularly recognized in Chambers USA and The Legal 500 US for his domestic and international tax work. 

David is a former President of The Tax Club of New York City. He has authored a number of articles for various tax publications.
