Latham & Watkins Advises Brookfield on Investment in 752-Unit Build-to-Rent Multifamily Development in Cologne

Latham & Watkins LLP has advised Brookfield on an investment in an inner-city residential development project in Cologne’s Marienburg district. The investment will support the ongoing construction of the project, which is expected to complete by the end of 2027. 

A total of 752 residential units, alongside over 600 underground parking spaces, 5,000 sqm commercial units, and a daycare center, will create a vibrant neighborhood that will feature green inner courtyards, open spaces, and children’s playgrounds. Sustainability is an important feature of the development, designed to reach KfW 40 NH standard and DGNB Platinum standard.

The Latham team was led by private equity real estate partners Otto von Gruben and Carsten Loll with associates Ivo Wanwitz, Sebastian von Hornung, and Katharina Wolf. Advice was also provided on finance matters by partner Torsten Volkholz with associates Julia Braeuer and Verena Birke, and on tax matters by partner Tobias Klass.
