Latham Launches Second Edition of Taking Security in Africa Guide
Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce the publication of the second edition of Taking Security in Africa, a comprehensive guide to help investors navigate the complex laws and legal systems governing some of Africa’s most active jurisdictions for foreign investment.
Authored in conjunction with local law firms, the guide summarizes a number of key considerations associated with inward investment in Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, and Uganda. Topics include:
- Exploring the types of assets over which security can be taken
- Detailing the different types of security available
- Examining the procedures for the perfection and enforcement of such security
- Outlining applicable insolvency and bankruptcy regimes
“Against the backdrop of a more optimistic global economic outlook, Africa remains an attractive destination for foreign investors,” said Clement Fondufe, Co-Chair of Latham’s Africa Practice. “As the market continues to grow and mature, we hope this guide serves as a practical resource for investors looking to invest in these developing and dynamic economies.”
“The complexity of Africa's legal systems, coupled with a lack of understanding about the application of these systems to foreign investments, can often deter investors from deploying capital in Africa,” added David Ziyambi, Vice-Chair of Latham’s Africa Practice. “Our Taking Security in Africa guide summarizes the key laws and considerations around security that financiers and investors should be mindful of when providing funding or leveraging their investments in some of Africa’s most compelling growth markets. Our aim is to break down the complexity and provide investors with the understanding, insight, and know-how to facilitate informed decisions about their investments.”
The Latham & Watkins Taking Security in Africa guide was produced in conjunction with Matouk Bassiouny & Hennawy, Habesha Legal Advocates LLP, ENSafrica Ghana, Anjarwalla & Khanna LLP (ALN Kenya), BLC Robert & Associates, ALN | Aluko & Oyebode, ENS, and Signum Advocates.
