Firm honored by Law360 for market shaping matters across the industry.

Law360 named Latham & Watkins a 2021 Energy Practice Group of the Year. This is the fourth time the firm has won in the past five years. The publication’s annual awards program honors firms behind the litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry.

In the profile piece, Law360 highlighted the firm’s “heavy emphasis on the diversity of both its geography and its technical expertise to stand out in a competitive marketplace.” Conrad Andersen, Global Vice Chair of the Firm’s Energy & Infrastructure Industry Group, emphasized this point, stating that “in addition to the breadth and depth of sector expertise our practice area is strong in each of those areas and comes together to support our clients, not just in M&A or financing, but in relation to dispute work or regulatory actions as well, making us a powerhouse.”

Law360 also noted that the team has added 15 new partners in the space positioning itself to adjust to client needs with the energy transition.

“We were mindful of this tectonic shift that's occurring very early on,” said Justin Stolte, Global Chair of the Firm’s Energy & Infrastructure Industry Group. “I think our first-mover steps, so to speak, really have well positioned us with our clients as they become active participants in the energy transition."

Among the firm’s major achievements highlighted in the article was the Vineyard Wind Project, the first large-scale offshore wind farm project in the United States, off the coast of Massachusetts. Eli Katz, Global Vice Chair of the Firm’s Energy & Infrastructure Industry Group, noting that “we've been planting the seeds and positioning ourselves for offshore wind in the US for probably almost a decade, so it's not an accident that we're such a pivotal player in this space.”

In addition, Law360 mentioned the firm’s work on a range of other energy projects from advising an EIG-led consortium on its acquisition of a 49% equity stake in Aramco Oil Pipelines Co. for US$12.3 billion to our M&A work with Chesapeake Energy in its acquisition of Vine Energy as well as guiding Terra-Gen Power in its financing for the Edwards Sanborn Solar Storage Facility.
