Latham Wins Firm of the Year Awards for Energy & Projects and Environment
In the annual Chambers USA Awards for 2022, Latham & Watkins has received Law Firm of the Year honors in the Energy & Projects and Environmental categories, and the firm was also named a finalist in five other categories: Antitrust; Capital Markets; Healthcare; Intellectual Property; and Private Equity.
The awards recognize law firm practices for “achievements over the past 12 months including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth and excellence in client service.”
The Energy & Projects award recognizes work across Latham, particularly by lawyers in the Energy & Infrastructure Industry Group and the Project Development & Finance Practice. Chambers USA praised the firm as "...outstanding across the full spectrum of energy assets, from oil and gas to traditional power to renewables, leveraging their expertise to provide top-draw representation to their clients with 'sharp, commercial lawyers who have a very strong understanding of the market'".
“As the industry continues to navigate energy transition and move toward a low-carbon future, we are partnering with our clients on landmark transactions that are shaping the market. We combine our first-rate legal knowledge with our sophisticated understanding of the energy and infrastructure sectors to achieve our clients’ business goals. We are incredibly proud of this work and humbled that Chambers USA is recognizing us for it,” said Justin Stolte, Global Chair of Latham’s Energy & Infrastructure Industry Group.
“Many of the world’s largest oil and gas, electric energy, infrastructure, and telecommunications developers, investors, and financiers have engaged Latham for advice on their projects – because we deliver industry-leading counsel along with practical insights in sectors throughout the project finance market,” said Jeff Greenberg, Global Chair of the Project Development & Finance Practice.
Chambers lauded the firm’s Environment, Land & Resources (ELR) Practice as “a force of nature in the environment space,” noting that “marrying transactional experts, leading trial lawyers and regulatory specialists, the firm is a one stop shop for all things environment. Additionally, the practice is complimented by strong expertise on climate change matters.”
“We’re proud and honored to be recognized for our market-leading practice. Latham’s ELR teams have deep understanding of legislative and regulatory developments at the regional, national, and global level, and we draw on deep experience to strategically advise clients in environmental matters of all kinds including transactional, land use, regulatory and litigation matters,” said Janice Schneider, Global Co-Chair of the firm’s Environment, Land & Resources Practice.
Among numerous recent firm highlights in these areas are Latham’s representation of a group of nine banks providing up to US$2.3 billion to finance Vineyard Wind, the first major offshore windfarm to achieve financial close in the United States, and the firm’s advice on more than 60 sustainable finance transactions with an aggregate value of over US$37 billion throughout 2021.
