Alejandro Ortiz advises clients on their most valuable M&A and international private equity transactions, as well as across the life cycle of their investments.

Mr. Ortiz draws on decades of public and private M&A experience, having helped clients navigate more than 40 takeover bids in Spain in recent years. He regularly acts for major international and domestic fund managers on leveraged buyouts and exits from their Spanish investments. His experience bridges multiple market sectors, including:

He regularly garners recognition from leading publications and league tables, including Mergermarket, Chambers Europe, and The Legal 500 EMEA. Mr. Ortiz has appeared multiple times on Mergermarket’s top-10 European M&A rankings, including ranking first in Iberia both by deal number and value in 2018 and by value in 2017 and 2020. 

A recognized thought leader, Mr. Ortiz is a lecturer on commercial law at the Complutense University and on mergers and acquisitions at ICADE and IE in Madrid.

  • IFM Investors in a public takeover offer for up to a 22.69% stake in Naturgy, which was the largest energy transaction in Spain in 2021 and garnered recognition as Deal of the Year by Expansión*

    • A 40% stake in Cepsa from Mubadala*
    • Logoplaste and its subsequent sale to OTPP*
    • Cupa Group and subsequent sale to Brookfield*
    • Telecable and subsequent sale and merger with Euskaltel*
  • Sixth Street on acquiring an interest in Real Madrid’s business unit engaged in exploiting the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium*
  • Incus Capital on acquiring a 10% stake in Aguas de Valencia*
  • OTPP on acquiring Mémora Group and its subsequent sale to Grupo Catalana Occidente*
