Austin Anderson is an associate in the Bay Area offices of Latham & Watkins.
Austin advises clients across a range of industries on matters relating to data privacy and cybersecurity. He regularly counsels clients on emerging US state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), the Washington My Health, My Data Act (WMHMDA), and various sector-specific state and federal regulations, such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). Austin also advises clients in complex transaction matters, and often helps clients develop and implement internal data privacy compliance programs that are consistent with privacy and data protection laws and regulations. He also represents clients in regulatory investigations and inquiries by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and other government regulators, agencies, and bodies.
Austin is also a frequent author and speaker on data privacy and cybersecurity. He has previously spoken at the IAPP Global Privacy Summit and has co-authored various blog posts relating to developments of US privacy laws at the state and federal level.
In his previous role, Austin was a member of the firm's Information Government Compliance Department, where he regularly assisted with developing and implementing policies relating to information security and privacy, risk management, and compliance with legal and ethical issues. While in law school, he also focused on cybersecurity and data privacy, graduating from the concentration with honors from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles.
