James Lim is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Finance Department and the Project Development & Finance Practice.

James represents sponsors, equity investors, developers, and lenders in the development, construction, and financing of energy and infrastructure projects, including solar, wind, battery storage, hydroelectric, and other renewable energy projects.

Prior to joining Latham, James was an associate at an international law firm where he advised clients in domestic and cross-border project finance transactions, with an emphasis in Latin America and renewable energy.

While attending law school, James served as judicial clerk for Judge John Z. Lee of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and as senior editor for the Northwestern Journal of International Law and Business.

James' experience includes representation of:

  • Terra-Gen in the financing of a 610-MWh battery storage project in Mojave, California
  • Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund in the financing of the world’s first alcohol-to-jet sustainable aviation fuel production plant in Soperton, Georgia
  • ENGIE in the financing of a portfolio of four solar parks and two wind farms in Mexico, with a combined capacity of approximately 721 MW*
  • Invenergy in the financing of the acquisition, development, and conversion of a floating storage and regasification unit in Acajutla, El Salvador*
  • Oaktree Capital in its preferred equity investment in a rail transportation company providing terminal, port, mechanical, and supply chain services in North America and Australia*
  • Note purchasers in connection with a 4(a)(2) private placement related to a project financing of a pumped storage hydroelectric generating facility located in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont, with approximately 1,168 MW of generating capacity*
  • Lenders in the financing of one of North America’s largest district energy systems located in Rochester, New York, with approximately 120 MW of natural gas generating capacity*
