Bruce is one of the earliest practitioners in the Texas market to have a full-time practice dedicated to private equity transactions. A native Houstonian with broad private equity relationships dating back to the late 1980s, he regularly counsels private equity firms, infrastructure funds, and portfolio companies on a range of private equity transactions, including:

  • Leveraged buyouts of US and global energy service companies
  • Growth- and early-stage capital investments
  • Equity line arrangements for management-backed upstream companies and other complex partnership structures
  • M&A projects within the energy transition and infrastructure sectors
  • Fund-level projects such as fund formation, fund governance, and fund economic arrangements

Chambers USA (2021) recognizes Bruce as one of six Texas-based attorneys on its prestigious “Spotlight” table for Corporate/M&A: Private Equity (Texas), which cites “Bruce is unique in having not only exceptional legal capabilities but also the ability to find the most reasonable and commercial outcome.” Bruce is also listed in The Legal 500 US (2021) and The Best Lawyers in America where he has been recognized for more than a decade in areas of corporate, leveraged buyouts and private equity, M&A, venture capital, and energy law. In the 2021 edition, he is named as “Lawyer of the Year” for Venture Capital Law in New York.

Prior to joining Latham, Bruce was a partner at another leading global law firm, where he served on the executive committee and as co-managing partner of the Houston office. Before that, he was co-CEO of Genesis Park, a Houston-based venture capital firm, and served as law clerk to Judge Homer Thornberry of the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
